The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a Lagos-based mother, Shodunke Yetunde Simbiat, who is alleged to be a major female drug trafficker, after an intense 20-month manhunt.
According to the NDLEA, the suspect was apprehended after intelligence-led operations traced her movements and activities across Lagos. During a search of her residence, operatives reportedly discovered a large quantity of cocaine weighing 23.50 kilograms, carefully hidden inside her children’s room.
The illicit drugs, estimated to be worth ₦5 billion, were allegedly concealed in a manner meant to evade detection and suspicion. NDLEA officials described the hiding place as disturbing, noting that the suspect allegedly used her role as a mother and the presence of children in the house to mask her criminal activities.
Speaking on the arrest, NDLEA authorities stated that the operation was part of the agency’s ongoing efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks and bring high-profile drug dealers to justice, regardless of gender or social status.
The agency further revealed that Shodunke Yetunde Simbiat had been on their wanted list for nearly two years, with several failed attempts to arrest her before finally succeeding. Her arrest marks a significant breakthrough in the fight against drug abuse and trafficking in Nigeria.
NDLEA emphasized that drug crimes not only destroy lives but also pose serious threats to families and society at large, especially when children are exposed to such dangerous substances.
The suspect is currently in NDLEA custody and is expected to be charged to court after investigations are concluded.
