NAFDAC Bans Indomie Vegetable Flavour Noodles Over Dangerous Undeclared Allergens

NAFDAC has banned Indomie Vegetable Flavour noodles after discovering undeclared milk and egg allergens that pose serious health risks to consumers. Full details here.

The National Agency for Food and Drugs  and Control (NAFDAC) has officially banned Indomie Noodles Vegetable Flavour in Nigeria following the discovery of dangerous undeclared allergens that could pose serious health risks to consumers.
According to NAFDAC, the affected product contains milk and eggs, which were not clearly declared on the product label. This omission makes the noodles particularly dangerous for people who suffer from food allergies or intolerances, as consuming such allergens unknowingly could lead to severe reactions, including breathing difficulties, rashes, stomach complications, or even life-threatening emergencies.

Why NAFDAC Took Action

NAFDAC explained that the ban followed an international recall notice issued by France’s food safety authority, Rappel Conso. The recall revealed that Indomie Vegetable Flavour noodles sold in some markets contained allergens not listed on the packaging, violating food safety regulations.
In a public alert cited by TVC News, NAFDAC confirmed that the directive was issued under Public Alert No. 041/2025. The alert applies to all batches of the product with a best-before date of February 6, 2026.
Risk of the Product Entering Nigeria

While addressing concerns about availability in Nigeria, NAFDAC noted that the risk of the banned noodles entering the country remains low. This is largely due to the Federal Government’s existing ban on the importation of noodles into Nigeria.
However, the agency warned that the product could still find its way into the country through illegal importation, online purchases, or international travelers bringing it in from abroad.
Increased Market Surveillance
To prevent any possible circulation of the banned product, NAFDAC has intensified nationwide surveillance. Zonal directors and state coordinators have been instructed to closely monitor markets, shops, and distribution channels.
NAFDAC emphasized that any Indomie Vegetable Flavour noodles found during inspections will be immediately removed from circulation to protect public health.
Warning to Sellers and Consumers

The agency strongly advised distributors, retailers, and consumers to remain alert. Sellers have been warned not to stock or sell the affected product, while consumers have been urged to avoid buying or consuming it.
NAFDAC also encouraged the public to report any sightings of the banned noodles to the nearest NAFDAC office to help ensure food safety across the country.
NAFDAC’s Commitment to Public Safety
NAFDAC reiterated its commitment to safeguarding Nigerians from unsafe food products and urged consumers to always check labels carefully and stay updated on official food safety alerts.
The agency assured Nigerians that it will continue working with international partners and local enforcement teams to ensure that only safe and properly labeled food products are available in the market.
