Nigerian music superstar Burna Boy has pledged to cover the full funeral expenses of the four young victims tragically killed in a mass shooting at a children’s birthday party in Stockton, California.
The heartbreaking incident occurred on Saturday, November 29, at Monkey Space, a banquet hall in San Joaquin County, where victims aged 8 to 21 lost their lives after a targeted shooting. Eleven others were wounded, leaving the community devastated.
Burna Boy revealed in a statement that he learned about the tragedy while listening to The Breakfast Club radio show.
“When I heard about the children murdered in Stockton, my heart broke,” he said. “No family should ever face this kind of pain alone. I wanted to do whatever I could to support these parents as they begin the long process of healing.”
After reaching out to industry executive Wack 100, Burna Boy was connected with Stockton Vice Mayor Jason Lee, who confirmed the artist’s commitment to assisting the families. One of the victims, 14-year-old Amari Peterson, particularly touched the Grammy winner. A GoFundMe created for the teen described him as a vibrant athlete with dreams of attending college.
Vice Mayor Lee expressed gratitude, noting that Burna Boy’s compassion toward families he has never met is a powerful reminder for others to support the grieving community in their time of need.
As of Tuesday, December 2, no arrests have been made, and the case continues to draw national attention amid ongoing debates about gun violence in the United States.
Burna Boy’s act of kindness comes shortly after a viral moment from his Colorado concert, where he paused his performance to call out a couple appearing to sleep in the front row.
