“Who Ordered the Retreat? — Kebbi Governor Slams Military Exit Before Girls’ Abduction”

Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has raised serious concerns over the unexpected withdrawal of military personnel from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga—just moments before armed bandits abducted several students.

The governor voiced his frustration in Birnin Kebbi on Friday while receiving the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, who visited the state to offer sympathy and solidarity.

Idris explained that the government had earlier been alerted to a possible att+ck and immediately convened a high-level security meeting. “As a responsible government, once we received intelligence of a potential attack, we called for a security briefing,” he said.

According to him, security operatives initially assured the government that the situation was under control and that additional personnel would be deployed to the school. Troops were indeed stationed there—until they mysteriously pulled out around 3 a.m.

“By 3:45 a.m., the incident occurred,” Idris revealed.

governor said the state has since demanded a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the withdrawal. “Who authorised the military to leave? How did security personnel vacate their posts at such a critical moment? That is what we want to know,” he stressed.

Idris assured the public that both state and federal authorities are working tirelessly to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted students.
