Bandits who attacked the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, have demanded ₦100 million ransom for each abducted worshipper, following a deadly assault that left three people dead and over 30 congregants kidnapped.
According to community sources and early security briefings, the gunmen stormed the church during a Tuesday service, opening fire and forcing between 30 and 35 worshippers into the forest. A community leader, who confirmed that his relatives were among the victims, said the kidnappers have begun calling families in clusters, insisting on full payment of ₦100 million per victim before any release.
Attack Lasted for Hours
Witnesses said the armed men operated for several hours without interruption, disrupting the service and marching worshippers into the forest. The pastor of the church reported that the service was ongoing when the gunmen invaded, triggering chaos as congregants attempted to flee for safety.
Protests Erupt as Fear Spreads
The incident has intensified fear across neighbouring communities. In response, angry youths in Eruku blocked the Ilorin–Kabba highway, protesting rising insecurity and demanding urgent government intervention.
Security Agencies Launch Search Operations
Security operatives have reportedly launched extensive search and rescue operations around forests bordering Kwara and Kogi States. The Kwara State Government has also requested strengthened federal security support to help address the escalating crisis.
