Shock in Plateau as Village Leader Says Army Protected Fulani Gunmen During Raid

A fresh wave of tension has hit Plateau State after a community leader in Hoss, Riyom Local Government Area, accused soldiers stationed in the area of failing to intervene during a violent attack carried out by suspected Fulani gunmen.

The community leader, Timothy Dung, made the allegation in a letter addressed to Governor Caleb Mutfwang, claiming that the conduct of some military personnel had become questionable and no longer inspires confidence among the locals.

According to him, armed attackers invaded the community in the early hours of the morning, destroying homes, farmlands, and properties. Villagers said distress calls were made as the raid intensified, but soldiers allegedly arrived and took positions without confronting the gunmen.

> “Our people are being attacked repeatedly, yet the soldiers who are supposed to protect us simply stand aside,” the community leader alleged.
“Their conduct suggests compromise. We no longer feel safe with them here.”

Residents who spoke to local reporters also expressed frustration, saying the community has suffered multiple attacks in recent weeks with minimal or delayed security response.
