Students of Delta State Polytechnic (DSP), Oghara, have reportedly taken action against their course representative in the Engineering Department over allegations of financial exploitation.
According to information gathered, the issue began when students discovered that a compulsory textbook, originally priced at about ₦3,500, was being sold to them for as much as ₦8,500. Many students expressed frustration and anger, accusing the course representative of taking advantage of his position to make personal profit at their expense.
The situation quickly escalated as students compared prices and confirmed the actual cost of the textbook from other sources. Feeling deceived, several students confronted the course representative, demanding an explanation for the significant price difference.
Reports also suggest that suspicions grew stronger when students noticed a sudden change in the lifestyle of the course representative. It was alleged that shortly after assuming office, he upgraded his mobile device from an iPhone XR to an iPhone 16. This development fueled speculations among students that the proceeds from the alleged overpricing may have been used for personal purchases.
As tensions rose, the matter reportedly led to the course representative being apprehended by fellow students and handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation. Students involved in the incident stated that their intention was to seek accountability and prevent similar situations from happening in the future.
The incident has sparked conversations within the institution about transparency, accountability, and the responsibilities of student leaders. Many students have called for proper monitoring of course representatives and clearer guidelines on handling academic materials and student funds.
At the time of this report, the school management has not released an official statement regarding the incident. However, students are hopeful that appropriate actions will be taken after a thorough investigation.
