Mozambique President Daniel Chapo Offers Huge Cash Bonus to Motivate Mambas Ahead of AFCON Clash Against Nigeria


Mozambique President Daniel Francisco Chapo has thrown his full support behind the national football team, the Mambas, ahead of their high-stakes Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Round of 16 encounter against the Super Eagles of Nigeria in Morocco.
In a motivational message released on Thursday, January 1, President Chapo praised the players and technical crew for their resilience and determination during the group stage of the tournament. He described the team’s qualification for the knockout phase as a historic achievement that has united Mozambicans and lifted national pride.

According to the president, Mozambique’s progression to the Round of 16 represents an unprecedented milestone in the country’s football history. To further boost morale, President Chapo approved an extraordinary cash incentive for the team. He announced that each player and member of the coaching staff will receive 500,000 meticais if the Mambas defeat Nigeria and advance to the quarter-finals of the competition.

The bonus, which is estimated to be worth approximately ₦11.3 million in Nigerian currency, is seen as a significant motivation and a clear signal of government backing for the national team’s AFCON campaign.
