Rema dominates 2025 pop culture for the second year running as his music, global impact, and historic milestones cement his status as Afrobeats’ poster boy.
For the second year in a row, Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, has stamped his authority as the biggest name in pop culture. His music, achievements, and influence throughout 2025 have not only kept him in the spotlight but have also strengthened his reputation as the new face of Afrobeats on the global stage.
Born on May 1, 2000, into the family of the late Justice Ikubor — a slain chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State and former General Manager of Ethiope Publishing Company — Rema’s journey has been marked by resilience, talent, and consistency. At just 25 years old, he has achieved what many artists can only dream of, standing tall as Entertainer of the Year with historic milestones to his name.
Rema’s sophomore album, “HEIS,” has remained one of the most talked-about projects in 2025. The album continues to attract massive attention across continents, earning praise from critics, fans, and industry legends alike. Its bold sound, confident delivery, and genre-blending approach further highlight Rema’s refusal to be boxed into a single style, a trait that has defined his rise.
Legendary singer Angélique Kidjo once described Rema as a true representation of Afrobeats’ international success, noting that artists like him have helped push African music to the center of global culture. That recognition reflects how far Rema’s influence now reaches — beyond charts and awards, into shaping how the world views African sound.
Even earlier releases continue to break boundaries. His 2023 global smash hit “Calm Down,” from the 2022 album Raves & Roses, has maintained impressive momentum in 2025. The song has achieved a rare feat by crossing the billion-stream mark twice, reaffirming its status as one of Afrobeats’ most successful records ever.
