The Nigeria Police Force has recorded a major success in its fight against banditry and kidnapping with the arrest of two notorious criminal kingpins operating across several northern states.
On Friday, December 19, 2025, operatives of the Force Intelligence Department – Intelligence Response Team (FID–IRT), working closely with the Kwara State Police Command, carried out a covert operation that led to the arrest of two dangerous suspects along the Komen–Masallaci axis in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The arrested suspects are Abubakar Usman, also known as Siddi, aged 26, and Shehu Mohammadu, popularly called Gide, aged 30. Both men were apprehended at Komen–Masallaci village during the operation.
Items recovered from the suspects include a brand new red Honda Ace 125 motorcycle valued at ₦1.85 million, which investigations confirmed was bought with ransom proceeds, ₦500,000 in cash suspected to be unspent ransom money, and one AK-47 rifle with a magazine containing 20 rounds of live ammunition.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are active members of a notorious banditry and kidnapping gang responsible for violent crimes across Zamfara, Katsina, Niger, and Kwara States. The gang is also believed to be involved in the supply of arms and ammunition to other criminal groups.
The suspects are currently cooperating with police investigators, providing useful information that may lead to the arrest of other gang members and the recovery of more weapons.
Police authorities also confirmed that one of the suspects, Abubakar Usman (Siddi), was recently identified as the individual seen in a viral social media video where firearms and large sums of money were openly displayed.
Commending the officers involved, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, praised their professionalism and dedication. He reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks, curbing banditry and kidnapping, and ensuring the safety of all Nigerians.
The Police further urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to support ongoing security operations across the country.
