Masquerader Arrested in Akwa Ibom for Public Disturbance Despite State Ban

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a man, identified as David Effiong, for allegedly causing a public disturbance while dressed in full masquerade attire, despite a government ban on such activities.

According to reports, Effiong was apprehended on Tuesday after residents alerted the police about a masquerader creating a nuisance in the community. Eyewitnesses said he was not only disturbing the peace but also allegedly damaging property during the incident.
The state government had earlier imposed strict restrictions on masquerade performances to ensure public safety, but Effiong’s actions violated these directives. Authorities have confirmed that he is currently in custody as investigations continue.

Police have urged residents to report any similar incidents and reminded the public that strict measures will be taken against anyone who defies the ban.
