President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared that insecurity is his deepest worry, warning that without rebuilding trust, Nigeria risks worsening violence, economic setbacks, and educational decline.
Speaking in Kaduna at the 25th Anniversary of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) and the launch of its Endowment Fund, Tinubu — represented by House Speaker Abbas Tajudeen — said his administration inherited severe security challenges but is tackling them urgently.
“Nothing troubles me more than the security crisis plaguing Nigeria, especially the North. Affliction anywhere in our country is a setback for all,” he said.
In his address, titled “A Generation Summoned by a Crisis,” the President urged Northern leaders to act with honesty and courage, stressing that the region must protect its most vulnerable citizens.
“We fail the day we sleep comfortably while millions sleep hungry. The day fear becomes a permanent companion for travellers is the day we lose,” Tinubu warned.
Despite decades of dysfunction fracturing national unity, Tinubu highlighted the North’s ethnic and religious diversity as a source of strength. He reaffirmed his commitment to eliminating terrorist and bandit groups while boosting the region’s economy.
The President also expressed optimism for Northern Nigeria’s future, pointing to crude oil prospects from Kolmani and other Northern fields and ongoing infrastructure projects, including the Abuja–Kaduna–Kano Superhighway, which is soon to be inaugurated in Kano.
Concluding, Tinubu reminded citizens that every generation faces defining challenges, and today’s call is restoring security and communal values in the North. He praised the ACF for 25 years of principled advocacy and being a stabilizing force in national affairs.
